Designing Tomorrow's Yacht Systems, Today.
We design, test, and prototype liveaboard-ready equipment—3D-printed components, advanced wing-sail concepts, and modular onboard systems.

About Velatus Marine

Velatus Marine is an offshore R&D company operating a liveaboard research vessel to develop practical yacht systems. We iterate fast, test in the real world, and ship designs that survive salt, shock, and sun.

R&D Focus Areas

Our research concentrates on three critical areas of yacht system development, each tested and refined aboard our liveaboard research platform.

3D Printing & Prototyping

Rapid fabrication of custom housings, deck hardware, and interior components using marine-grade polymers.

Onboard Systems

Energy, safety, and comfort systems optimised for long-term liveaboard use.

Sail Innovation

Wing-sail concepts and control systems designed for reliability and repeatability.

Featured Projects

Real-world solutions developed and tested aboard our research vessel. Each project represents our problem → approach → result methodology.

Modular Watermaker Mount + Vibration Damping

Designed a modular mounting system for watermaker pumps that reduces vibration transfer to the hull while allowing for easy maintenance access. The 3D-printed dampening mounts use TPU inserts to absorb shock while maintaining structural integrity in marine conditions.

Wing Sail Control Linkage: Rev A → Rev B

Iterated our wing sail control linkage design based on real-world testing. Rev B incorporates lessons learned from storm conditions, featuring improved bearing seals, corrosion-resistant materials, and simplified maintenance procedures.

12V/24V Hybrid Bus with Smart Monitoring

Developed a hybrid electrical system that efficiently manages both 12V and 24V loads while providing real-time monitoring of power consumption, battery state, and system health through a custom dashboard interface.

Printed Companionway Latch, UV-Stable Nylon

Created a replacement companionway latch using UV-stable nylon that matches OEM functionality while being field-repairable. The design includes integrated strain relief and weather sealing for harsh marine environments.

Liveaboard Testing Platform

Continuous liveaboard testing lets us spot failures early, measure improvements, and publish honest results. Our vessel operates as a working platform where we prototype, measure, and iterate under real conditions.

Why liveaboard testing matters: continuous usage reveals edge cases that bench testing misses. Realistic constraints force practical solutions. Fast iteration cycles mean better products, faster.

"Our vessel operates as a working platform; we prototype, measure, and iterate under real conditions."
